Somatic Cells are known to damage milk secreating cells are lead to a loss in production. Dairy Club’s Tracker system records day by day the likely losses and compiles them to give a summary of potential milk lost and the cost at current milk prices.

SCC Update

(The example shown is of an average farm on Tracker and does not show the averages of all samples)

An analysis of over 300 farms showed the average SCC of 169 resulted just under 2,500MS of lost milk per farm at a cost of $11,405.

However, these averages mask some big losses on some farms. Knowing what the true cost of SCC is through lost production can help quantify the cost of strategies to reduce SCC.  The Dairy Club will be looking at strategies to combat SCC and cost effectively reduce the cost.
